Duo killed post party

Balangir, Jan.16: The bodies of a youth and a middle-aged person were found in a pool of blood near a bridge over Sutkel river in Chandanbati village today.

The victims were identified as Dibyajyoti Panigrahi, 29, and Minaketan Ghibela, 50, of Sindurbahal village near Chandanbati.

Police have registered a case of homicide. A police team and sniffer dog have reached the spot to make further inquiry. Sanjeev Panigrahi, a relative of deceased Dibyajyoti, said his brother and Minaketan, had gone to Laxmidhar Patel’s house for a party. Patel, is a samiti member of Balangir sadar block in Kusmel.

“The incident seemed to have occurred while the two were returning from the party. I have no idea who has committed the crime. My brother was a contractor and he must have had some rivals. I think that they have killed my brother,” he said.

The accused, who had been following them, reportedly attacked Dibyajyoti with sharp-edged weapons and cut his neck. They also killed Minaketan.

While Dibyajyoti was a civil contractor, Minaketan was an employee of the public works department and was staying in Balangir. Police have detained Patel for interrogation.

Inspector in-charge of Balangir sadar police station Deepak Jena said: “We have not made any arrests so far. The family members in their FIR have not mentioned any name. But they are suspecting some people and have given us a few names. We have registered a case and have began inquiry. According to preliminary interrogation, it seems to be a case of rivalry between contractors.
