Office fire
Guwahati, Jan. 16: Two panchayat offices at Bahjani and Ramyapur in Kamrup district were set on fire last night, hours before the two-day economic blockade announced by the Rabha Hasong Joint Movement Committee, started. Police in Kamrup district said goons set fireto the two offices late last night and escaped. However, the fire was brought under control by the residents and the police.
Body found
Tinsukia: An unidentified body was recovered from Tirap colliery at Ledo under Margherita police station in the district. Police said the body is suspected to be of a person involved in coal theft as mining in the field was currently under suspension since January 10.
Centenary
Jorhat: Jorhat deputy commissioner Ramesh Chand Jain on Wednesday inaugurated a new cell for undertrials who are brought to the DC court campus. This is part of the centenary celebrations of Jorhat Central Jail.
Torch rally
Jorhat: The AJYCP on Wednesday took out a torch rally demanding expulsion of illegal migrants and protection for the indigenous people of the state.
