Borsalino fancied

Calcutta: Sunday is the day of deliverance for the eight thoroughbreds, who after months of hard work and toil, have made a cut. They are out to contest the richest race of their career, the 2,400m Eveready Calcutta Derby Stakes. The winner takes home in excess of Rs 1 crore and the first runner-up about Rs half-a-crore. However, only two horses — the South India invader, Borsalino, and the local queen, Silverina, a runaway winner of the Oaks — fit in to the scheme of things as the rigours of the Derby demands much more than the blend of speed and stamina. Trainer S. Padmanabhan’s Borsalino (David Allan-up), already has two summer Derbies under his belt. He is out break the myth that the Choisir-Running Flame son is no mud larker.
