Extortion arrests
Jan. 11: City police last night arrested two youths — 22-year-old Pranjit Keot and 28-year-old Mridupaban Ligira — from Oriyagaon in Nagaon for allegedly demanding Rs 1 crore from Amrit Hatcheries in the Ulubari area in the name of Ulfa.
Hatigaon fire
Four thatched houses were gutted in a fire in the Hatigaon area on Friday afternoon. Four fire tenders took around 45 minutes to douse the flames. Sources in the fire department said there were no reports of any casualties.
Poem contest
The Dispur Sahitya Sabha is organising a poetry competition. Anyone above the age of 18 years can send his or her unpublished poems before to the sabha’s secretary, Atul Chandra Gayan before January 26. The winner will be felicitated with a citation and a trophy.
