ARC beat Imphal club, enter semis

Churchand cup

Imphal, Jan. 11: Assam Regimental Centre, Shillong, sailed into the semi-final of the Sir Churchand Singh Football Tournament, defeating North Imphal Sporting Association by 1-0 goals in the first quarter-final at Mapal Kangjeibung here today.

ARCís winning goal came from Bobbychand, who converted a pass from Ajit from the left flank in the 15th minute.

North Imphal also put up a good fight but failed to score.

The coach of Assam Regimental Centre (ARC), Hemam Jembo, was confident that his team could reach the final.

ARC is participating in the tournament after 12 years. In 2000, the team participated in the tournament and lost the semi-final to the BSF.

The coach said he felt nostalgic in coming back to Imphal and had mixed feelings today, as he had been the North Imphal goalkeeper early in his career.

SSB athletics: The Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) will organise its 7th All India SSB Inter-Frontier Athletics Championship, under the banner of its Guwahati Frontier, at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium here from January 14 to 16.
