Guwahati, Jan. 10: The Titabor District Sports Association is organising an under-14 inter-district club football tournament across the state from January 20 in association with the Assam Football Association (AFA) and its affiliated districts, as well as Titabor-based NGO Aprins, which works for youth development.
Announcing the tournament, the association’s president Gaurav Gogoi said the objective of the meet was to scout for talent.
“The district associations will select a competent club team to represent the district and from the tournament, we will scout for a pool of 50 talented players with the help of AFA. After medical verification of their age, the youngsters will be groomed under the AIFF tutelage by organising camps apart from adopting by clubs like United Sikkim SC, Shillong Lajong FC and others for grooming in their academies,” Gogoi said.
The knockout tournament’s first round matches will be played at one of the participating team’s home ground after which the second rounds will be held in sub-divisional towns and the pre-quarters and the quarters at AFA district towns.
The semi-finals will be held at Golaghat and Morigaon.
