Bike gang busted, 11 arrested

East Singhbhum police busted a bike lifters’ gang on Thursday by arresting 11 people from Jamshedpur, Baharagora, Chakulia and Dhalbhumgarh. Twenty motorcycles were recovered.

SSP Akhilesh Kumar Jha said acting on a tip-off, they first nabbed Shyam Singh, alias Chikna, from Sidhgora. They had information that Chikna, a resident of Namta Bustee in Golmuri, had been running a gang of bike lifters.

“Thereafter, we set up a task force, headed by Golmuriinspector I.B. Ojha, which raided places in Baharagora, Dhalbhumgarh and Chakulia and made the arrests. Chikna’s aides, Chandro Prasad and Dilip Kumar, were nabbed from Baharagora and Chakulia, respectively,” Jha added.

Chikna used to steal the bikes from Jamshedpur and send them to Chandro, who scouted buyers in rural areas. Dilip, a mechanic, modified the bikes and change the numberplates. “Chandro took Rs 2,000 to Rs 3000 per bike as his cut,” the SSP said.
