Apex court order to CBI
The Supreme Court on Thursday directed the CBI to file a status report on the progress related to six FIRs lodged in 2005 alleging irregularities and theft of artefacts from the Indian Museum and Victoria Memorial. The bench of Justice K.S. Radhakrishnan and Justice Dipak Misra also asked the ministries of home and culture to furnish their response on deployment of CISF personnel, providing them accommodation and releasing funds for physical verification of the artefacts. The court passed the order after the director of the museum, Anup Kumar Motilal, submitted that the outcome of the FIRs was unknown.
Rape arrests
Five officials of a private firm in Khardah were arrested on Wednesday after an employee accused them of molestation and attempted rape. The 21-year-old told police that she was called to the managing director’s office, where he and four others allegedly molested her and tried to rape her. They fled when she raised the alarm.
Youth shot at
A youth who runs a construction materials supply business was shot at in Birati late on Thursday. Two youths reportedly called Kaushik Sarkar, 25, alias Chotka, out of his home and shot at him. They managed to flee. Kaushik is in hospital in critical condition. |
