The seeded players in boys’ under-18 singles suffered an upset defeat in the quarter final round of the AITA Championship Series Tennis Tournament, at the BTA Complex, on Wednesday.

Top seed Rahul Robinson went down 6-4, 3-6, 0-6 to Rohin Gajree, while second seed Richie Agarwal lost 3-6, 6-1, 4-6 to Yuvraj Singh. Nitin Kumar Sinha won 5-7, 7-5, 6-3 against third seed Sanil Jagtiani.

In girls’ under 18 singles, top Seed Avanthika Sai walloped Adrija Biswas 6-0, 6-0, while second seed Bhavani Balakumar defeated Shreya Das 2-6, 6-1, 6-3. Aarja Chakraborty whipping third seed Shruti Gupta 6-1, 6-1.       

East Bengal treasurer Santosh Kumar Dutta died on Wednesday afternoon due to kidney failure. He was 64.
