Clamour for CBI probe into murder

Karimganj, Jan. 8 (PTI): A local forum today demanded a CBI probe into the abduction and murder of a student from Silchar, Pritam Bhattacharjee, who went missing from Naugachia railway station in Bihar while travelling to New Delhi by Awadh Assam Express last year.

The forum, Justice for Pritam, quoting information received from inspector-general of GRP, Bihar, Binoy Kumar, told reporters in Silchar that the investigations have brought forth fresh information on Pritam’s killing.

Forum spokesman Somyadeep Roy Chowdhury, a friend of Pritam, quoting the report said the arrest of a person called Chotu Sahani by Bihar police had led to the arrest of three others.

The three, Rajesh Mandal, Balmiki Razzak and Chandan Kumar Saha, had boarded the same compartment in which Pritam was travelling on July 9, 2012. As the train was entering Naugachia station, Chandan snatched Pritam’s bag and leapt from the train on the second platform of the station, according to the report.

Pritam, too, disembarked at the station to chase them and met the snatcher’s aide, Bijoy Mandal, who pretended to help him. Thereafter, two other aides of the criminals, Chotu Sahani and Nepali Singha, abducted Pritam and took him to Makkhatakia village by car. They brought him near Kataria overbridge five days later and killed him, the report said, adding that Nepali Singha had admitted that he had killed Pritam.

Pritam had made the last call to his family telling them that he had missed the train at Naugachia station. Since then he remained untraced and his mobile phone was found switched off. His body was found on July 15 on the railway track under Kataria overbridge, 12km from Naugachia railway station.
