Guwahati in semis

Guwahati, Jan. 8: A six-wicket haul, including a hat-trick by Elvis Hazarika, helped Guwahati inflict a nine-wicket drubbing on Nalbari in a Group A quarter-final match of the Umananda Bora Trophy inter-district (under-13) cricket tournament at Barsapara Cricket Stadium here.

Nalbari, put to bat, were bundled out for 66 in 30.1 overs, thanks to Elvis’ magic spell that saw him concede just 12 runs from eight overs, including three maidens.

Barring Nibir Deka, who took 31 balls to score 12 runs, none of the Nalbari batsmen could get to double figures. Wickets fell in a heap, including three when the score was just 57. Apart from wrecker-in-chief Elvis, Kaushik Kalita bagged two for 13 while Riyan Parag took one for seven runs.

In reply, Guwahati cruised to their target, posting 67 for one in just eight overs.

Abhishek Yadav and Riyan were unbeaten on 16 and 14 runs respectively. For Nalbari, Abhinash Barman took one wicket for 18 in his three overs.

In a second round Group B match at Nehru Stadium, Barpeta defeated Nagaon by 59 runs. Put in to bat, Barpeta were restricted to 121 for eight in 40 overs. Siddhartha Sutradhar top-scored with 31 while Pritam Saikia chipped in with 18 runs. For Nagaon, Susanta Das was the pick of the bowlers with four for 30 runs in eight overs.

In reply, Nagaon made a meal of a rather easy target and were bundled out for 62 in 23.5 overs. Hasim Muskan Ali was the highest contributor with 23 of 67 balls. For Barpeta, Jishukesh Das and Jan Pathak bagged three wickets each while Sahid Rahman came up with a cameo, taking two wickets for five in three overs.
