Paoli Dam and Vikram

After a two-and-a-half-year break, director Anjan Das (Saanjhbatir Roopkathara, Jara Brishtite Bhijechhilo) is finally ready to roll with his next — Ajana Bataser Galpo, based on Joy Goswami’s novella, Sharojantrakari, with Paoli Dam and Vikram in the lead.

“While reading the novella I felt it could be made into a film,” said Anjan whose Jara Brishtite... and Saanjhbatir... too were based on Goswami’s works. “Paoli plays a girl who goes through a conflict with her inner and outer selves... they clash and she fails to communicate her inner world to her near and dear ones, and hence has to let go of people close to her, like her lover and also her boss. The description of the girl in the novella fits Paoli, so I thought of casting her,” added Anjan.

Vikram will play a young Paoli’s lover and Koushik Sen her lover when she is older.

Produced by Vignesh Creations, Ajana Bataser Galpo goes on the floor on January 18. “Debojyoti Mishra will do the background score. Besides Calcutta, we will shoot in Bolpur,” said Anjan.
