Train service

Trains did not ply in the Sealdah (Main) section for more than four hours from 11.45am on Tuesday, after an empty coach of a Lalgola passenger got derailed and hit an electrical pole, snapping power supply. everal long-distance trains were cancelled or rescheduled and services along the Ranaghat, Bongaon and Dankuni sections were also affected. The cancelled trains included the Sealdah-Rampurhat Intercity Express and the Sealdah-Asansol Intercity Express. The departure of the Sealdah Rajdhani Express, Teesta Torsa Express and some other trains were delayed. ervices were restored in three sections at 12.50pm. Trains started plying on the main line at 4.05pm.

Thief arrested

A domestic help who allegedly drugged and stole jewellery and a cell phone from her employers in Patuli on December 8, was arrested on Monday from her Baruipur home. Rachima Sardar, 32, had allegedly given sleeping pills to Arup Chatterjee, his wife and 22-year-old son. The phone has been recovered from her.

Job racket

Two men in their mid-30s were arrested from Sarisha in Diamond Harbour early on Tuesday for duping several people of Rs 10 lakh with the promise of police jobs. Asim Mondal and Bapi Roychoudhury were remanded in three days’ police custody.

Rape arrest

A 50-year-old was arrested for allegedly raping an 8-year-old girl at his home in Kasba. The girl’s mother had lodged a complaint against Kartick Mondal.

Stalker held

Aniruddha Mondal, in his mid-40s, was arrested for allegedly stalking a woman and passing lewd remarks at her on CR Avenue.
