Silchar tame Margherita

Guwahati, Jan. 7: Silchar tamed Margherita by eight wickets in a Group A match of the J.K. Baruah Trophy inter-district (under-19) cricket tournament at Tinsukia DSA Stadium today.

Margherita opted to bat but were bundled out for 52 in 22.4 overs. Rajat Khan was the top-scorer with 17. For Silchar, T. Mudid bagged five for 21 in 5.4 overs.

In reply, Silchar cruised to their target to make 53 for two in 16.1 overs. Harsha Das (unbeaten 21) and Krishanu Dutta (18 not out) saw the team home. In a Group B match at Biswanath Chariali, Nazira were tottering at 64 for six in 28 overs against Biswanath Chariali at stumps on Day One. For Biswanath, Rohit Rowniar and Dibash Hazarika bagged three wickets each.

Earlier, Biswanath made 249 with Rajesh Prasad Rowniar top-scoring with a gritty 74 while Siddhartha Sankar Baruah and Manjit Borkataky made 37 and 29 runs respectively.

Nazira’s Sawan Rahman was the pick of the bowlers with six for 89 runs in 20 overs.

In a Group C match at Goalpara today Guwahati thrashed Bongaigaon by eight wickets. In reply to Bongaigaon’s 139, Guwahati rode on Sunzow Brahma’s unbeaten 52 and Hrishikesh Tamuli’s 45 not out to cruise to 140 for two.

In a Group D match at Mangaldoi, Karbi Anglong defeated Nalbari by eight wickets. Nalbari, put in to bat, made 147 in 42 overs. Anurag Talukdar top-scored with 53. Karbi Anglong bowler Pansam Anshi took six for 23 runs.

In reply, Karbi Anglong cruised to 148 for two in 33.overs. Seskimso Teron made 55 while Hazandra Basumatary was unbeaten on 53.
