Accident
A minibus ran over a woman in her late 40s in front of Metro cinema on Monday evening. The woman was rushed to Calcutta Medical College and Hospital, where she was declared dead. The Howrah-bound bus could not be intercepted.
Voyeur held
A 30-year-old man was caught peeping into a bathroom with a home-made periscope at Garfa on Sunday while a woman was inside. Lalu Bar, 30, had scaled a tree and inserted the periscope through the ventilator, said police. The woman spotted “the pipe-like” object and raised the alarm. Bar has been arrested and a case started against him.
Discourse
Swami Parthasarathy, an exponent of Vedanta, and his daughter-disciple Sunandaji will engage in public discourses on Bhaja Govindam and Bhagavad Gita at Kala Kunj from January 9 to January 13. The discourses will be organised by Vedanta Cultural Foundation and Vedanta Institute Kolkata. The lectures by Swami Parthasarathi will begin at 7.15am daily and Sunandaji’s discourses at 6pm daily.
Train cancelled
The 12329Up Sealdah-New Delhi Sampark Kranti Express, scheduled to depart at 1.10pm on Tuesday, has been cancelled because of the delay of the corresponding Down train because of fog.
