It couldn’t have been better, says Shami

New Delhi: Shami Ahmed, 22, had a superb debut, at the Kotla, on Sunday. Later, on returning to the ITC Maurya, he briefly spoke to The Telegraph.

The following are excerpts

On getting to know that he’d be making his debut...

Was told in the morning only... Gauti (Gautam Gambhir, the Kolkata Knight Riders’ captain) presented me the India cap.

Thoughts on having made his debut in a match won by India...

Very happy... Itni khushi ki bata nahin sakte. It couldn’t have been better.

If he’d been nervous...

Nahin... Khali line aur length dimag mein tha.

Bowling quick...

Well, that depends on the strength in the shoulders. The back must also be strong.

Role model...

Dale Steyn. He’s asked me to focus on line and length... The rest will fall in place.

If he’s learnt from working with Wasim Akram, the Knights’ mentor...

Jee haan.

Finally, plans for the immediate future...

To pack my bags and go home (Moradabad)!
