1 dead in car crash

Siliguri, Jan. 6: A middle-aged resident of Calcutta died and at least five others, including a cab driver, were injured when their vehicle from Mirik to Darjeeling fell into a gorge near Sukhiapokhri, around 65km from here, this evening.

Police sources said the deceased has been identified as Gobinda Rakshit, 50. Local people rescued the injured and rushed them to the district hospital in Darjeeling.


Hospital

Gangtok: Relatives of patients and the staff of Sir Thutop Namgyal Hospital protested on Saturday after water supply was stopped to the maternity ward. The supply was restored at 11pm on Saturday.


Arrest

Balurghat: A district RSP leader was remanded in judicial custody till January 11 on Saturday for allegedly beating a tribal woman with his slippers six months ago.
