Genesis beat NCA

Guwahati, Jan. 6: Genesis Club yesterday rode centuries by Manashjyoti Gogoi and Jyotiraditya Chetia to get the better of Noonmati Cricket Academy (NCA) by 91 runs in a match of the Ramesh Barooah Trophy invitation cricket tournament, organised by the Gauhati Town Club, at Judges Field here.

Genesis elected to bat first and piled up 316 for four in the stipulated 40 overs. In reply, a century by Azhar Ahmed went in vain as NCA were all out for 225 in 37.3 overs.

Gogoi topscored for Genesis with 119 runs while Chetia scored 106. Sunzow Brahma also scored a quickfire 23. Biju Sutradhar of NCA scalped three wickets for 46 bowling five overs.

For NCA, Ahmed scored 134, and Vinod Gupta chipped in with 18.

Siddharth Baruah and Debojit Das of Genesis took three wickets each, giving away 32 and 48 runs respectively. Manashjyoti Gogoi also picked up two for seven.

Fielding coach: Assam Ranji team’s fielding coach Subhadeep Ghosh has been named fielding coach of the India A team for its match against the visiting England team.

He was in the same position during the recent India A tour of West Indies.

Volleyball meet: The 12th Adil Zaman Khan inter-district mini (boys’ and girls’) volleyball championship will be held at Dibrugarh from January 19. AVA general secretary Munin Nobis has sought entries from interested districts.

Under-19 team: The Guwahati Sports Association has named the district under-19 team for the ongoing JK Baruah Trophy inter-district (under-19) cricket tournament. The team has been named for the first two matches to be played in Golaghat.
