Politician’s house attacked

Dhubri, Jan. 4: The residence of a Congress leader, Golap Rabha, was attacked by unidentified men at Patpara in Goalpara district last night during the 36-hour Rabha-Hasong Autonomous Council area strike called by Rabha-Hasong organisations, which ended at at 5pm.

The strike was called by 34 organisations, led by Arsu, demanding elections to the council and cancellation of the state panchayat elections declared last month.

Shops along NH37, NH 51 and NH 62 started to open from this evening. Vehicles have also started plying.

Arsu president Tonkeswar Rabha said first phase of agitation ended today but the situation might turn volatile if the government did not cancel the panchayat election and announce council election.
