Trader abducted
Tezpur, Jan. 3: Anjan Kar, a 30-year-old grocery shop owner, was abducted from the Kherbari, arouind 20km from Gohpur in Sonitpur district, around 12.30pm today by a four-member armed group. Kar was returning from a weekly market with four other persons in a car, sources said.
Poll training
Guwahati: A training for 4,500 polling and presiding officers to perform panchayat elections in Darrang district began on Thursday at Mangaldoi district library auditorium. Darrang deputy commissioner Sohrab Ali inaugurated the training programme.

Guwahati: The assistant professor of Hyderabad-based English and Foreign Languages University, Hemanga Dutta, on Thursday delivered a lecture on comparative study of Assamese and English phonetics in the office of Hills and Barak Valley commissioner here at Dispur.
New hall
Guwahati: A new conference hall was opened at the office of the Assam secondary education directorate on Wednesday. Director Babulal Sarma inaugurated the hall.
