New Delhi, Jan. 3: External affairs minister Salman Khurshid today defended the home ministry’s decision to grant a visa to Javed Miandad and said the home ministry had followed “proper” procedures.
The former Pakistan captain, currently an official of the Pakistan Cricket Board, has family ties with Dawood Ibrahim, the gangster wanted in India for his role in the 1993 Bombay blasts.
The BJP and the Shiv Sena have criticised the Centre for the grant of visa.
Khurshid said: “Opposition only questions. Proper procedures have been gone through in this. Any law of prudence which had to be followed, it was followed, I am sure law will take care.”
Miandad’s visa will allow him to watch the final ODI between the two countries in New Delhi on Sunday.
