Guwahati, Jan. 2: Navajyoti Club registered a 53-run victory against Maharana Athletic Club in the inaugural match of the Ramesh Barooah Trophy invitation cricket tournament at Judges Field here today.
Put to bat, the Navajyoti men posted 236 for seven in the 40 overs and Maharana were restricted to 180 for six in 37 overs after three overs were truncated from their quota as penalty for losing time during fielding.Nirendra Dekaraja topscored for Navajyoti Club with 49 runs and Nipan Deka remained not out on 45.
Nekibur Rahman of Maharana bagged two wickets for 56 runs and Ikram Ali and Abhijit Rabha picked up one each. Rabha (53) was the topscorer for Maharana while Sukhman Mohori and Kaushik Ojha scored 40 and 35 respectively. Left-arm spinner Bhaskar Jyoti Barman of Navajyoti Club scalped three wickets for 32.
Wushu medals: Assam players bagged six medals, including a gold, in the 12th sub-junior national wushu championship held in Chhattisgarh from December 24 to 29. Amina Kujur won the gold in girls’ below 44kg san-shou event while Jini Das (below 24kg), Udhab Rajbongshi (below 28kg), Tarikh Ahmed (below 32kg) and Bishal Limbu (below 40kg) bagged bronze in the same event. Sanma Brahma tallied a bronze in nangun of taolu event.
U-13 cricket: Hailakandi will play Sivasagar in the first match of the Umananda Bora Trophy inter-district under-13 cricket tournament at Barsapara ground here tomorrow. The tournament was inaugurated on December 20 but was suspended following detection of overaged players in the teams.
