Nagaon, Jan. 1: Four persons, two of them children, were stabbed to death in two different places in central Assam’s Nagaon district during the past 24 hours.
Three members of a family were stabbed to death by one of their relatives at Kuhumtoli under Sibasthan outpost in Koliabor around 1pm today.
According to Koliabor police, Mohbor Ali of Kuhumtoli entered the house of Phulbanu Begum and stabbed her to death along with her two children — Rabul Ali, 8, and Najia Khatun, 6.
Mohbor is a close relative of Phulbanu’s family and has a land-related dispute with the family.
“There was land-related altercation between Muhbor and Phulbanu for more than an hour. Mohbor brought a dau with him and stabbed all three. He fled before villagers could reached the site,” said Mainul Hoque of Kuhumtoli.
Police are looking for Mohbor, who is absconding.
In another incident, a 22-year-old youth was stabbed to death by his inebriated friend at Puranigudam Chalchali last night. Mauchum Phukan of Puranigudam Mohpara was at a New Year’s party at Chalchali along with his friends. He was stabbed to death on his way home by one of his associates, who was identified as Naba Jyoti Rangdai. He has been arrested.
The police arrested Rangdai today.
