Teen arrested

Singapore, Jan. 1 (PTI): A 13-year-old Indian student has been arrested by Singapore police for posting a Facebook message in which he allegedly threatened to bomb a casino resort.

The unnamed boy vowed to take “a big big revenge”, “spit everywhere” and “plant bombs on Marina Bay Sands” on the day he leaves Singapore, The Straits Times reported. The offence is punishable by a maximum of five years in jail or a fine of up to 100,000 dollars, or both.

Delhi flights

New Delhi (PTI): Fog hit operations at Delhi’s airport on Tuesday, forcing the cancellation of 14 flights and delaying 15 others. At 2.30am, visibility had dropped to less than 50m at the third runway and around 200m at the main runway.

Techie killed

Bangalore (PTI): A software engineer from Tamil Nadu who had come here for New Year celebrations was stabbed to death by his friends, police said. Karthik was attacked after a drunken brawl in front of a hotel on Monday night. Three of the friends have been taken into custody for questioning.

Leh airlift

Jammu: The air force on Tuesday airlifted 203 stranded people from Leh town to Jammu. An IL-76 aircraft was used for ferrying the people, mostly from Kargil district. However, bad weather forced the IAF to abandon its plan to airlift another 65 people.

Cop ‘suicide’

Jammu (PTI): A special police officer has allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district, police said. The reason why Romesh Singh took the step is not yet known, the police added. Singh’s body was handed over to his family after post-mortem.

Rape let-off

New Delhi (PTI): A placement agency owner accused of raping a job aspirant has been let off by a court after the girl’s testimony was not found trustworthy. Additional sessions judge Yogesh Khanna acquitted the 53-year-old owner after it emerged there were monetary disputes between the two.

Woman set on fire

Hathras, Jan. 1 (PTI): A woman was set on fire allegedly by a stalker in Uttar Pradesh’s Sasni area last night, police said.

The incident took place when Asha, 22, was alone at home. She suffered 90 per cent burns. Her father got injured while trying to save her. The accused had been stalking the girl some time because of which she had stopped attending college, the police added.

Indo-Pak lists

New Delhi: India and Pakistan on Tuesday exchanged lists of nuclear installations and prisoners being held in each other’s jails as part of a periodic exercise. The swapping of the lists, once a year for nuclear facilities and twice for prisoners, was done through diplomatic channels.

Gutkha ban

Bhubaneswar: Odisha government has announced a state-wide ban on the manufacture, sale and use of gutkha and chewing tobacco containing nicotine. Odisha is the 15th state to ban gutkha.

Indian rites

New York (PTI): The 46-year old Indian immigrant who was killed after being pushed onto subway tracks last week was cremated on Monday. Friends and business partners of Sunando Sen attended the service.
