Liquor death protest
Madhubani: Residents of Chakdah village in the district set five toddy shops on fire near a railway level crossing on Tuesday evening, claiming that the kiosks were selling spurious liquor. The action came in the wake of reports of the death of five villagers allegedly because of drinking spurious liquor.

Patna: Guddu Yadav and Annu Kumar, both accused in the gang rape of a girl under the jurisdiction of Shahjehanpur police in rural Patna, were arrested from Horil Bigha village in the Daniawan area on Tuesday. Senior superintendent of police Amrit Raj said the third accused, Arjun Yadav, was arrested earlier from Nalanda district.
Patna: Ranjeet Kumar, 27, attempted suicide by consuming petrol in front of a private girls’ hostel at Makhania Kuan under Pirbahore police station on Tuesday after his wife, Kavita, refused to go out with him on New Year. Police have not filed a complaint citing the incident as a family feud.
Begusarai (pti): Two children were killed and others injured after they were hit by a motorcycle at Kunwartol locality in Begusarai district on Tuesday. The accident occurred when the inebriated biker lost control and ran over three children and a woman sitting outside their house. He was arrested, but three pillion riders escaped.
Madhubani (pti): Armed criminals on Tuesday looted Rs 3 lakh from an employee of a general store in the Bazaar Samiti area in the district. Police said the motorcycle-borne criminals intercepted Neeraj at gunpoint and looted the bag containing the amount before escaping.
