One held for child assault

Balasore, Dec 29: Nilgiri police today arrested one person in connection with the alleged torture on four minor boys near a picnic spot yesterday.

Sangram Keshari Mohanty, 35, who was arrested following a complaint by the victims, is a resident of Soro.

Mohanty, who was part of a picnic party, had allegedly assaulted four minor boys — Basanta Mallick, Pravakar Das, Bijayt Mallick and Dinesh Mallick — all residents of Shyamsundarpur village. He even put live cigarette on their body. The incident took place near Panchalingerswar, a popular picnic spot in Nilgiri.

The victims, all of whom are school students, had accompanied the picnickers’ group from Soro to assist them in cooking. They had been promised a sum of Rs 300 for their services.

However, they alleged that they were given only Rs 200 once the picnic was over. When the four kids demanded another Rs 100 from the picnickers, the latter allegedly threatened and physically tortured them.
