Bhubaneswar, Dec. 28: Odia cine lovers must be quite disappointed with the year that is drawing to an end. Compared to 31 films that were released in 2011, only 22 films hit the theatres this year.

However, the viewers need not get disheartened as several interesting projects are lined up for 2013, which promise to infuse new life in the cine industry grappling with rip-offs and loss-making ventures.

In the coming year, director-actor duo Ashok Pati and Babushan Mohanty would be coming together once again with romantic drama Deewana Deewani.

As director Ashok Pati describes it, the film is about how crazy a boy and girl can get in love and will narrate the story of two lovers — Banya, played by debutant actress Madhumita, and Sanju, essayed by Babushan.

After giving back-to-back hits such as Something Something and Matric Fail this year, the trio of director Sudhakar Basant and the much-adored couple Anubhav and Barsha will be back with Mo Duniya Tu Hi Tu.

Actor Akash Das Nayak, who could not set the box office ringing this year, will also leave no stone unturned to woo the audience in 2013.

Under the banner of Jeet Entertainment, upcoming film No. 1 Khiladi will feature Akash and Megha Ghosh as the lead pair.

Akash’s Mita Basichi Mu Bhuta Sathire, touted to be first Odia 3D movie, could not see the daylight this year. Next year, even that is ready to roll out. Dharma is another flick the action hero will bank on.

The year also promises to give a major thrust to female-oriented films.

In ACP Sagarika, the onus of sailing the ship through will be on actress Archita Sahu, who will play out the dual role of a daughter and a brave police officer. The film will release in February.

“It is a special film for me because I am the central character in it. I had to work on my fitness a lot for the film,” said Archita.

Another woman-centric film Nai Separi Kanaka Gori will feature three veterans of Odia cinema — Mihir Das, Aparajita Mohanty and Meenaketan. The film is set up in a rural backdrop. It will hit the theatres on April 1, said producer Ajay Mohanty.

Another film to be released with a woman as the protagonist is Lalpan Bibi starring Anu Choudhury. This film will also release in the first quarter of 2013. Pappu Pom Pom, who catapulted his image from a comedian to a comic hero with Rangila Toka, will be back to entertain one and all with Chauka Chakka in the coming year.
