Tourism mart

Guwahati, Dec. 28: Around 150 officials of Asean and SAARC countries associated with tourism, tour operators, hoteliers, travel agents, will meet at the International Northeast Tourism Mart from January 18 to 20 here. Tthe Adventure Tour Operators Association will organise its 10th annual convention from January 20 to 22. The two mega events will be organised jointly by ministry of tourism, Assam government and the association.

One killed

Kokrajhar: One person died while five more were injured in a road mishap at Srirampur in Kokrajhar on Friday. According to police, the vehicle coming from Phuentsholing in Bhutan collided with a passenger bus going towards Alipurduar in West Bengal. The injured were taken to Gossaigaon RNB civil hospital where the driver, Zangpo, died of his injuries.

Patricide

Dibrugarh: Ratul Baruah, 22, of Saul Kora in the district was arrested on charges of killing his father, Loknath Baruah, 48, on Thursday night. Ratul allegedly hit his father with a wooden stick. His father would return home every night in a drunken state and start a brawl.

House burnt

Imphal: A mob burnt the house of an alleged rapist identified as Soibam Somorjit, 44, after he allegedly raped an 18-year-old housewife at Wangjing in Thoubal district on Thursday night. Somorjit surrendered to Thoubal police station on Friday.

Demand

Guwahati: The AIUDF on Friday demanded the Congress government to publish a white paper on security measures to bring lasting peace in the BTAD.
