Kid law status check

Patna: Around 40 block labour enforcement officers attended a programme, “Training of Trainers on Strengthening Law Enforcement System to Combat Child Labour”, to check the status of implementation of the Child Labour Prohibition and Regulation Act, 1986, at AN Sinha Institute of Social Studies on Friday. he event was jointly organised by the labour resources department and International Labour Organisation.

Rights cases

Patna: Bihar Human Rights Commission member Neelmani has directed deputy inspector-general (DIG) (Saharsa range) Sanjay Singh to appear before the commission on February 5, 2013, in connection with the detention of Lal Mohan Mandal and Ravindra Ram, both residents of Supaul, in an alleged fabricated case lodged under the Arms Act in 2011. Neelmani also sought to know from the Saharsa DIG about the action taken against former station house officer of Pipra police station Arti Kumari Jaiswal, trainee sub-inspector Shambhu Kumar and assistant sub-inspector Braj Kishore Singh, who were held responsible for sending innocent persons to jail.

Workshop

Patna: Socio Economic and Educational Development Society, in collaboration with the district tobacco control cell under the district health society, organised a workshop on tobacco control for block-level officials on Effective Enforcement of Tobacco Control Laws, 2003, on Friday. Law enforcement officers from all 23 blocks of Patna district attended the workshop.

Paddy graft

Kishanganj (PTI): An FIR has been lodged against two government officials for embezzlement of Rs 88 lakh in paddy procurement in Kishanganj. The duo are absconding. The state food corporation’s district manager, Mohammad Islam lodged the FIR on Thursday.

Review meet for conclave

Patna: Divisional commissioner ELSN Bala Prasad chaired a review meeting on the upcoming Buddhist Sangha Conference at Buddha Smriti Park on Friday. The conclave would be held between January 5 and 7. n the meeting, Prasad instructed the officers concerned to take measures for the accommodation and security of the special guests.

Patna: Chief minister Nitish Kumar would preside over Udyami Panchayat meet to be held at Rajgir Convention Centre in Nalanda on December 31. Issues related to the food-processing sector would be discussed at the meet.

Theatre

Patna: Theatre group, Naad, staged a play Hum Tummein Hain, at Kalidas Rangalaya on Friday. The play showcased the lifestyle and experiences of a young artiste.

Winter school

Patna: The weeklong faculty-development programme — Winter School on Effective Teaching and Research — that started on December 27 at Birla Institute of Technology, Patna, is on full swing. The programme aims at improving the quality of technical education.

Arrests

Patna: Two criminals, identified as Mantosh and Sohan, were arrested from Punaichak under Shastrinagar police station in Patna on Friday. The police recovered two-country-made pistols and two live cartridges from them. In another operation, Jitendra Yadav, a gangster of Katihar, was arrested from Boring Road.
