Minus 6, 89C Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad Sarani (at the basement of Inox Swabhumi)

This 1,200sqft ice lounge opened on December 12 in the basement of the building that houses Inox Swabhumi. Visitors must wear a jacket and boots, imported from Canada, when entering the lounge. You can enjoy mocktails here but no food is served. Next door is a vegetarian restaurant to tuck into piping hot food after the freezing experience. The cost of entry is Rs 1,000 per head and you can’t re-enter once you leave. The lounge is open from 12 noon to 11pm.

Byloom, FE 495

The apparel, accessories and lifestyle store in Hindustan Park opened another outlet in Salt Lake in September, to serve its Salt Lake clientele. With its colourful cottons, silks, linen saris, dupattas, glazed pottery, bags, jewellery and footwear, it has brought the collection so many swear by closer to you.

Afraa Deli, Ecospace, Business Park in New Town

The 85-seater deli that opened in March serves dishes like wraps and paninis. The floor to ceiling glass windows and bright walls create a chirpy ambience with the walls flaunting graphic art that shows the various foodies in Calcutta ranging from a kid forcing his mother to buy him kachoris to a man ordering a small peg.

Paparazzi, Globsyn Building, Sector V

Actor Anshuman Gupta opened a 50-seater multi-cuisine restaurant that serves American, Chinese and Indian thali. The focus is on Italian dishes. The most popular dish is Cheese Fondue — classic fondue served with grilled focaccia, crutons, potatoes wedges and vegetables tossed in Italian herbs.

Yogen Fruz, JC 21(near AMRI Hospitals)

The international frozen yoghurt chain Yogen Fruz that launched its outlet in August is an option if you are looking for something cold and dessert-like.

Slurp up some desserts like Mint Chocolate Chip, Chocolate Almond and Pina Colada. Special toppings include fresh fruits, nuts or choco chips. It is best had with fresh fruits, so pile on the strawberries and blueberries.

The best part? It’s low on fat and high on taste. A cup of these frozen delights ranges between Rs 70 and Rs 300 (more for toppings). They come in small, medium and large sizes.

Azad Hind got a new address in Salt Lake

The restaurant that opened in September brings to you all your Azad Hind favourites like Tandoori Prawn and Corn Masala. It also has a new dish called Gosht Hussainy (a thick creamy mutton dish with almond paste) and Lawrence Road de Mutton Tikke, a dish popular all over Punjab, on its menu. Designed with cartwheels and terracotta patachitra on the mud walls and terracotta lamps that hang from bamboo rafters, the restaurant has the look of a pind (village).

Ocean Grill, Infinity Benchmark, first floor, Sector V

Grilled food lovers will have something to look forward to with this latest entry to the list of lip-smacking restaurants in Salt Lake. Ocean Grill, an eatery for grilled seafood lovers, was opened in Sector V on December 24 by actor Abir Chatterjee.

You can tuck into piping hot seafood like Mixed Grilled Seafood Cocktail, which is like the normal seafood cocktail except that it is grilled. You can also try Grilled Lobster, Grilled Bhetki as well as the Grilled Seafood Platter, which is made up of Grilled Crab Meat, Grilled Shrimp, Grilled Prawn, Grilled Squid and Grilled Lobster.
