Assault cuffs on three

Bhubaneswar: Police on Thursday arrested three persons from Rajmahal for attacking a youth the previous evening. he accused, who were in an inebriated state, had allegedly passed lewd comments to girls near the Rajmahal traffic junction close to Capital police station. youth raised objections and was beaten up. He lodged a complaint with the police, who arrested the drunk trio and produced them before court.

Jailed

Bhubaneswar: Five persons involved in an alleged gang rape case at Katang village in the Kutra police station limits in Sundergarh were forwarded to court on Thursday. he incident took place on December 25 when the woman was returning home from a fair. The victim, after regaining her consciousness, had filed a case in Kutra police station. he is being treated at district headquarters hospital.

Bus service

Bhubaneswar: In compliance to the Orissa High Court order for extending city bus service in Cuttack city, the housing and urban development department has approved the proposal to extend route No. 504 up to Jagatpur. The service of the extended route will be operational from January 14 next year.

Lion dead

Bhubaneswar: A 21-year-old lion died in the Nandankanan zoo on Thursday. Authorities said the animal was not keeping well since the past 30 months because of old age and was under regular inspection of the zoo health committee. It was found dead in the feeding chamber of the lion safari. The zoo is now left with 10 lions.

Rape charge

Bhubaneswar: A tribal woman of Belpahad in Jharsuguda district on Thursday alleged gang rape by a group of labourers. he victim, hailing from Jharkhand, was working as a labour in a construction site. The incident happened when a labour invited her to a deserted place on the pretext of providing her a better job. Two other men present on the location raped her, she alleged in her complaint.

Detained

Bhubaneswar: Khandagiri police on Thursday detained a man from Baramunda bus stand for threatening autorickshaw drivers for a lift by posing as a cop. he auto drivers handed him to the police, who said the man was heavily drunk.

Car seized

Bhubaneswar: Capital police station officials on Thursday seized from Ashoka Market an abandoned car with smashed glasses in its front, back as well as side windows. hey also seized an iron rod, baseball bats, cricket stumps and a live bullet from the vehicle. Local people found the car in the morning. The cops are verifying the ownership of the car.
