Meet focus on munshis

As the munshi (constable clerk) is for all practical purposes the person who runs a police station, it is necessary to make them aware about human trafficking.

This was the observation made at a district-level training session for police officers on human trafficking in Ranchi on Thursday.

The training was imparted by member of State Commission for Protection of Child Rights cum co-ordinator of ATSEC, Jharkhand chapter, Sanjay Mishra, who spoke on rescue, restoration and rehabilitation of victims of human trafficking.

Mishra asked police officers to sensitise the munshi of each police station towards the problem of human trafficking.

ďWhen every one of you admit that the munshis run police stations, they he must be trained about various aspect of human trafficking and should be made sensitive towards the victims of trafficking,Ē he said.

He maintained that when an officer-in-charge of a police station goes on long range patrolling in remote areas, the munshi plays a vital role at. Sometimes, due to lack of sensitiveness towards the problem of human trafficking, he expresses reluctance in registering FIRs in human trafficking cases fearing the wrath of his officer-in-charge. Thus he must be made sensitive and it was the duty of the officer-in-charge to ensure that.
