Hookah bar arrest
Officers of Jadavpur police station arrested three persons — the manager and two staff members — of a bar-cum-restaurant in South City Mall for illegally running a hookah bar. Debasish Jana, Antonio Ajay Das and Ajay Durlab were arrested from the bar on Wednesday night.
Held for rape
Bijoy Mahato, who was accused of raping a mentally challenged woman at a bus stand in Thakurpukur in Behala on Monday, was arrested on Thursday from his home at Motihari, Bihar. Mahato had allegedly dragged the woman, a pavement dweller, behind a JNNURM bus parked in the deserted stand and raped her. A passerby had heard her cries for help and alerted others, who rescued her. Mahato had managed to flee before being handed over to police.
