Motihari: A letter by state cane commissioner Lian Kunga on December 21 and received on Thursday by Hanuman Sugar Mill management has sent shockwaves among farmers and factory workers. On December 6, the cane commissioner had told the farmers that if they did not start crushing by December 31, the reserve area would be tagged with other sugar factories.
According to the letter, the entire stretch of land falling within 280 sugar cane producing villages under reserve area of the Hanuman Sugar factory have been tagged with Sidhwaliya sugar factory, Sasamusa sugar factory and Vishnu sugar factory all in Gopalganj district, Riga sugar factory in Sitamarhi district and the sugar factory owned by HPCL at Sugauli in this district.
The president of the factory, D.K. Sharma, assured farmers of making payment for their crop and announced that crushing would be started by the end of this year.
Dumraon: On Thursday, labourers of Dumraon Textiles protested against the management for their alleged fake commitments for salary payment. The labourers were scheduled to receive by Thursday, which was rescheduled to January 9.
Patna: The state government has appointed five specialist doctors and 38 general doctors to provide better treatment to prisoners lodged in different jails. Inspector-general (prisons) Anand Kishor on Thursday said the doctors have been appointed on contractual basis and posted in 38 jails, including central jails in Patna, Motihari, Gaya and Buxar. Kishor said all the doctors have been asked to assume charge at the places of their posting by January 11, 2013. The appointments would come into force with effect from date of their joining.
