Varsity cameras
Burdwan, Dec. 27: Burdwan University has started installing CCTV cameras in two of its buildings, the move prompted by several incidents of campus violence in the past two years.
“We decided to install the cameras after frequent clashes between students and employees on the campus. The CCTVs will start operating from the first week of January,” assistant vice-chancellor Soroshi Mohun Dawn said today.
Pond deaths
Calcutta: Four persons died after the Maruti Omni in which they were travelling fell into a pond in South 24-Parganas. The four were part of a group of six returning to Calcutta after visiting a relative’s home at Falta. Of the remaining two, one is critically injured and the other can’t be found.

Siliguri: North Bengal University on Thursday appealed to candidates appearing for the UGC-NET to check the website www.nbu.ac.in for updated seating arrangements and venues. The exam is to be held on December 30.

Tamluk: Police on Thursday arrested 24 hawkers from two Digha-bound trains for allegedly obstructing tourists.
Citu hit
Haldia: Trinamul activists allegedly vandalised a Citu office in Haldia on Thursday and assaulted four persons. The four have been hospitalised. Trinamul has denied the charge.
