Anchit shocks Arnab

Guwahati, Dec. 26: Unseeded Anchit Talukdar caused an upset on the fourth day of the 15th India Club-Royal Global School Open Tennis Championship at the India Club courts here today.

Talukdar shocked sixth seed Arnab J. Lahkar 6-2 in a one-setter under-18 boys’ singles pre-quarter-final encounter.

Ankit Kashyap, Aman Deo, Vishal V. Saikia, Sahidul Islam, Kritartha Hazarika, Rituraj Gogoi and Raunak Bora have joined Talukdar in the quarter-finals in the same age group.

In the single-setter round-of-16 matches played today, Kashyap grounded Ayush Singh 6-1, Aman Deo prevailed over Krishanu Kumar Baruah 6-2, Saikia beat Hrishikesh Bhuyan 6-1, Islam blanked Sahil Hussain Choudhury 6-0, Hazarika tamed Kangkan Rabha 6-0, Gogoi defeated Chengish A Razdhan 6-2 and Bora got the better of Vivan V. Das 6-1.

Ankit Kashyap, Aman Deo, Rituraj Gogoi and Raunak Bora also booked under-14 boys’ singles quarter-final berths.
