Calcutta, Dec. 26: A cold wave alert has been issued in five south Bengal districts, with temperatures plunging to around 5C in some places.

Met officials said the 48-hour alert was issued in Burdwan, Purulia, Bankura, Birbhum and West Midnapore after the death of four persons in Asansol.

G.C. Debnath, the director of the Regional Meteorological Centre at Alipore, said the predicted cold wave would prevail for at least 48 hours.
