Laxman invited by CAB

Calcutta: The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), on Tuesday, has invited VVS Laxman for the January 3 one-dayer. “Eden Gardens is like Laxman’s second home. He may not be a former captain, but we have decided to felicitate him on that day, along with other former India and Pakistan captains,” CAB treasurer Biswarup Dey said. Laxman, though is yet to confirm.

Bagan, EB final

Calcutta: Subhamoy Das hit an unbeaten 108 as Mohun Bagan beat Bhowanipore by 13 runs in the semi-final of the JC Mukherjee Trophy, on Tuesday. They will be facing East Bengal, who defeated Town Club by 25 runs..

‘Sachin best’

Karachi: Hanif Mohammed, on Tuesday, rated Sachin Tendulkar better than Donald Bradman and described him as the best batsman he has seen in his life. “I’m one of those fortunate people who have seen Bradman and Tendulkar bat in my lifetime. And in my opinion Sachin is the best batsman I have seen in my life,” Hanif said.

New Delhi: Retired Justice Asok Ganguly, the one-man commission appointed by the All India Football Federation, is likely to submit his report on the Mohun Bagan imbroglio, on Wednesday. He will submit his report to Praful Patel. According to sources, Ganguly, who met both Bagan and AIFF officials on Monday, has completed his report. Based on his judgement, the AIFF will take a final decision on the subject.

Michu debut

London: Swansea City’s free-scoring striker Michu is set to make his Spain debut early next year following a sensational start to his career in the English Premier League. Vicente del Bosque, coach of European and world champions Spain, told Spanish television that the 26-year-old will play in the February 6 friendly against Uruguay in Doha.

State meet

Calcutta: The top four seeds in girls’ Under-12 singles entered the quarter finals of the Bengal Sub-Junior State Tennis Championship, on Tuesday.
Ishika Gupta, Megha Roy, Adrija Biswas and Monika Kumar had it fairly easy in the pre-quarter finals. While in boys’ Under-14 singles, unseeded Ansh Jain upset the seventh-seeded Mohammed Fardeen with an 8-5 win.
