Calcutta: Bengal shooters propelled their medal-tally to five in the 56th National Shooting Championship, being held in Delhi.
According to a media release, ace shooter Mampi Das clinched gold along with a bronze in air rifle — youth and junior category in the women’s section — with a score of 393.
Junior international shooter Subhankar Pramanick, too, bagged gold in 50-metre rifle prone, junior (Civilian) event with a score of 580. Besides, debutant Sohini Maity showcased her talent as well, having won silver in the double trap event with a score of 52.
Bengal won another medal in the 50-metre prone, civilian, team event, when the team comprising Vijayendra Singh, Subhajit Chakraborty and Himadri Das missed out on gold and had to settle for silver after losing in the tie-breaker against a formidable Railways team.
On the other hand, Athens Olympics silver-medallist Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore clinched the double trap gold medal, edging past former world No. 1 Ronjan Sodhi and Mohammad Asab.
Rathore, representing Army, shot 144+46 to clinch gold, while Asab totalled 141+46 to finish with silver. Sodhi settled for the bronze medal with a score of 138+48.
