‘Delay’ stick for DD five

New Delhi, Dec. 25: Five Doordarshan technicians have been suspended for failing to reach the Prime Minister’s residence yesterday in time for his address on the Delhi rape where his cue-out “Theek hai?” was misconstrued as the Centre’s blase attitude.

Doordarshan sources insisted today’s action against the two camera-persons and three engineers was not related to the telecast of Manmohan Singh’s unedited speech, but to their inability to reach the venue in time. The staffers have blamed traffic snarls.

As the DD team arrived late, the recording by ANI, which had also been given a time slot, was fed to 41 news channels as the address was being telecast live. Singh’s query “Theek hai?” to the cameraman at the end of his speech was also beamed live inadvertently by some of the channels, evoking widespread criticism on Twitter and several other social networking sites where it was read as part of the message.

The speech was supposed to be recorded around 9.30am but the DD crew reached 7 Race Course Road after 10.
