How they will celebrate Christmas in a home away from home

Serap Mutluol

fiancee of Australian-Turkish footballer Tolgay Ozbey

We haven’t decided, but we will definitely be together. It is all about family and being together… being with loved ones. I don’t know what surprises Tolgay has for me! This is my first Christmas in Calcutta and I’m looking forward to it. We will have a nice dinner at a hotel. It is a special day. It should be different from the other days. For a girl, it is important to dress up, look pretty and have fun.

Jose Ramirez Barreto

Brazilian footballer

We try to make it special. And a dinner party with the family is the best way. I came to Calcutta in 1999 and since then I have celebrated every Christmas here. It is spent in church and at home. I don’t cook; my wife (Veronica) is in charge of that. There will be Brazilian food on the table… chicken, pork.... In Brazil, Christmas also means new clothes!

Jeffrey K. Reneau

director of the American Center

Like last year, I will spend time with my family in the US — via Skype, thanks to technology! I will celebrate the season here in Calcutta with good friends, good food and in good spirits.

Dijana Dejanovic

model-turned-actress from Serbia

I am an Orthodox Christian and I celebrate Christmas on January 7 (by the Gregorian calendar). On December 25 I will be at a friend’s place. On January 7 I’ll have a few of my closest friends over for dinner. They are my family here and I am going to celebrate it with them. My family is not here and I miss them! We usually have a lot of meat... pork and lamb being the main dishes. There is also chicken. It is strange to celebrate Christmas and New Year without snow!
