Rajgir ready to host fest

- Sufi & dance performances, special events for women

Connoisseurs of music would be able to enjoy both Sufi and Bollywood tunes at the Rajgir Mahotsav this year.

From December 28 to December 30, Sufi artist Zila Khan, Bollywood playback singer Sukhwinder Singh and Ritika Raj, who earned a name for herself in Indian Idol, would share the stage in Rajgir, around 110km southeast of Patna.

“Chief minister Nitish Kumar would inaugurate the Rajgir Mahotsav on December 28,” said Nalanda district magistrate Sanjay Kumar Singh.

Besides famous singers, visitors to the fair would also be able to enjoy the performance of dancers. “Ganna Smirnova, a Bharatnatyam dancer and scholar from Ukraine, would perform on the opening day, while Kathak dancer Anu Sinha would entertain the audience on the final day,” said Singh.

The event is being jointly organised by the tourism department and the Nalanda district administration.

Apart from cultural evenings, traditional melas, a tonga race and other events would also be organised during day time. A book fair would be hosted and 30 publishers would put up stalls.

“We are also going to organise a mahila mahotsav (women’s festival) as part of the Rajgir Mahotsav on December 29. More than 5,000 women are expected to take part. They would showcase their skills in rangoli, mehndi and painting competitions,” said Singh.
