Teen Patti star (and yes, Shakti Kapoor’s daughter) Shraddha Kapoor is also the brand ambassador of Global Desi, a fashion label, and quite a stylista.
A couple of years in the industry and already quite a style icon! How conscious is Shraddha Kapoor of her look before she steps out of the house?
I like dressing according to my mood and I try not to think too much about what I’m wearing. It should always make me feel comfortable and good.
You once said, “If Global Desi were a person, it would be me… while I adapt to global styles, my roots are set in the Indian culture.” How do you bring together global and desi?
I’ve studied in an international school with foreign students and have also spent a year abroad studying at Boston University. I have been exposed to different cultures and styles from all over the world. I guess these experiences have inspired me and have became a part of me. I started experimenting… mixing styles with my cultural roots. Global Desi is colourful and I love experimenting with colours.
You love sporting different looks. What’s your favourite?
My oldest pair of jeans, a vintage belt, T-shirt and any kind of shoe, depending on the occasion.
You play around with your wardrobe but love to keep your hair open...
I usually keep my hair down, yes. It’s just something that I have grown up doing.
Coming from a film family, how did Bollywood shape your sense of style?
If you see me wearing anything flashy or jhataak, consider it inspired by Bollywood! Like I said, I like dressing according to my mood and there are times when I have found myself in a flashy, jazzy, Bollywood frame of mind!
Growing up, who was that one Bollywood heroine whose style fascinated you?
I loved Sridevi’s style. She’s explored everything… simple, conservative to being glamorous and stylish. And she carried off all the looks confidently. From Hollywood, I love the way Gwyneth Paltrow carries herself.
Have you ever gone through a filmi fashion phase?
Not really a phase but whenever it’s required to dress in a filmi manner, I happily comply.
What are some of your favourite shop stops?
Urban Outfitters, Topshop, Zara, Forever 21 and Global Desi.
What are you wearing these days?
How is Aashiqui 2 (remake of Rahul Roy-Anu Agarwwal starrer Aashiqui, being directed by Mohit Suri and starring Shraddha Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapur) coming along?
Fabulously. We finish filming in December.
