The railway budget may be at least two months away, but the demand for new trains has already started growing.
Lest the railway ministry ignores Jharkhand again, members of Divisional Railway Users’ Consultative Committee (DRUCC), who also represent various passenger and business organisations, decided to move much in advance and draw up a list of 11 new trains that the residents need.
The members submitted the list to officials of Ranchi railway division on Friday.
The wish list mentions the Ranchi-Jaipur weekly via Gaya-Kanpur, Ranchi-Hatia-Chennai weekly via Sambalpur-Vijayanagaram, Ranchi-Ahmedabad weekly via Rourkela-Nagpur, Ranchi-Secunderabad weekly via Bilaspur-Raipur, Ranchi-Jammutawi weekly via Varanasi-Lucknow, Tata-Secunderabad weekly via Bilaspur, Tata-Yeshwantpur weekly via Bilaspur-Raipur-Secunderabad, Ranchi-Indore weekly via Barkakana and Dhanbad-Bangalore weekly via Ranchi-Sambalpur-Vijayanagaram.
“At a meeting of DRUCC, we formally handed a letter, listing the trains we want in the 2013 rail budget, to officials in Ranchi. We also forwarded a copy of the letter to railway minister Pawan Kumar Bansal,” said Ashok Nagpal, a DRUCC member, who was elected as a member of Zonal Railway User’s Consultative Committee on Friday.
The DRUCC members also demanded that the frequency of a few important trains like Hatia-Lokmanya Tilak Express, Hatia-Yeshwatnpur Express, Tata-Yeshwantpur Express and Ranchi-Varanasi Express be increased. The letter urges the railway ministry to introduce pantry car in Hatia-Pune Express, Tata-Yeshwantpur Express, Ranchi-Kamakhya Express and Ranchi-Ajmer Express.
The DRUCC meeting was chaired by Ranchi divisional railway manager (DRM) Gajanan Mallya and attended by six members, apart from senior railway officials like additional DRM Sunil Kumar and senior divisional commercial manager B.N. Singh among others.
Other DRUCC members who were present included Prem Kataruka, Lalit Poddar, Ran Vijay Singh, B.S. Sahay, P.K. Datani and J.N. Ash, besides Nagpal.
Chotanagpur Passengers’ Association has, meanwhile, been pressing the railway ministry to soon execute the Ranchi-Kandra rail line project that will link the state capital with the industrial capital of Jharkhand directly.
DRM Mallya, on the other hand, informed DRUCC members that the Ranchi division had plans to construct additional passenger sheds at Ranchi and Hatia stations. He also said formalities for setting up the proposed escalator at Ranchi station had been completed and the same would be installed by March next year.
