The commissioners of Calcutta, Howrah, Bidhannagar and Barrackpore police met at Lalbazar on Wednesday to discuss security and traffic management during the Christmas-New Year period. According to Lalbazar sources, issues related to manning the border areas of Calcutta and installation of security cameras on major roads were also discussed.
Factory fire
A fire broke out in a biscuit factory off BT Road near Sodepur on Wednesday morning. Guards spotted smoke coming out from a part of the factory around 4.30am. Twelve fire engines controlled the fire within two hours.
Bike theft racket
Sheikh Kamal, 26, was arrested in Chanditala, Hooghly, for stealing bikes and smuggling them to Bangladesh through Bongaon.
