Garo hills firms dupe investors

Shillong, Dec. 18: Agents of two companies, which were operating in Garo Hills region, have lodged police complaints alleging that the companies had duped investors to the tune of lakhs of rupees.

On December 15, Gledwin B. Momin and two other agents of Abyas Assam Real Estate Ltd lodged a complaint at Mendipathar police station in North Garo Hills that during the past two years the company had collected around Rs 42 lakh from investors at Damas, Mendipathar and Dainadubi areas.

However, the agents alleged that recently the company has closed down without any notice.

In another complaint, Alson Ch. Sangma and 10 other agents of the same company lodged a complaint at the same police station that during the past two years the company had collected a huge amount of money from investors before it closed down recently.

James Sangma and eight other agents of Nile Agro International lodged a complaint at the same police station that the company has cheated investors of Rs 7,05,782.

There have been several cases in Meghalaya where investors have been duped by similar companies.
