Bus rams into car, boy injured

An eight-year-old boy was injured after a private bus hit the car in which he was travelling on AJC Bose Road, near the south gate of Victoria Memorial, at 12.30pm on Tuesday. Both the bus and the car were coming from the direction of Kidderpore and were headed towards the Exide crossing. nlookers said the spot is prone to accidents as many vehicles take a turn there without flashing the proper signals. The car got hit from behind when it swerved right to avoid crashing into another car that had taken a sudden left turn, said witnesses. he car’s rear has been badly damaged. The boy’s father, Md Naseem, who was also in the car, lodged a complaint with Hastings police station. The driver of the bus was arrested for rash driving.

Held for murder

Three persons were arrested on Tuesday in connection with the murder of 50-year-old Mahadeb Mandal, whose body had been found with the throat slit in the early hours of Sunday off Basanti Highway in the Pragati Maidan police station area. Police said Brinda Mallik, Swapan Mandal and Prasenjit Mandal had intercepted Mandal while he was riding a motorcycle and killed him before taking away his bike, cell phone and wristwatch.

‘Suicide’

Satyajit Dutta, 36, who lived in a housing complex on South Sinthi Road, apparently jumped to his death from the terrace of the five-storey building on Tuesday morning. No suicide note was found, said police. The unemployed Dutta was undergoing psychiatric treatment and used to live with his parents, the cops said.
