I’ve learnt everything from Sachin: Laxman

V.V.S. Laxman’s comments on Sachin Tendulkar have been emotional, to say the least. He shared the India dressing room with The Master for almost 16 years.

The following are excerpts

“I’m aware of the speculation… I’d like to talk about the Sachin I know… I’ve learnt everything from him... I first met him in 1994, during a benefit match organised by Arshad Ayub... But, obviously, I’d been following his career from 1989...

“I consider myself lucky that I could share my journey as an India cricketer with Sachin... It’s unbelievable the way he handles success, the way he handles the expectations of an entire country and more...

“There are, indeed, no words to describe what Sachin has done for world cricket... No words to describe how he has absorbed all the pressure... The way he has handled such adulation...

“Sachin has no privacy, for every move of his is scrutinised, yet he conducts himself admirably... His parents have to be complimented, wife Anjali has to be complimented...

“I’ve seen cricketers change after a few good performances, they’ve got carried away... I suppose it’s easy to get carried away in India, because the adulation is so much... But Sachin has been different...

“Sachin, for me, is a true role model... The world will be a much better place to live in if people follow in his footsteps.”
