Siliguri, Dec. 14: The Congress will shuffle its members mayor-in-council in the Siliguri Municipal Corporation later this month following allegations of the “lackadaisical attitude” against the building department.
Although a party source said the change was because of repeated charges of inefficiency and corruption brought by Trinamul councillors including north Bengal development minister Gautam Deb, Congress leaders called it a routine.
“We are in the process of shuffling the MMIC posts and the preliminary process has started. This is just a routine. Everything will be finalised after taking the consent of district president Shankar Malakar following a discussion with other district committee members,” said Jeevan Majumdar, the general secretary of the district Congress.
Apart from holding the mayoral and MMIC building posts, Congress councillors also look after urban poverty elevation and trade licence department cells. Sources said the party was likely to shift Seema Saha, MIC building, to the trade licences section. Sanjay Pathak, in-charge of the urban poverty elevation cell, will be given the building department and Deb Sankar Saha, of the trade licence, will take Pathak’s place. “After considering the allegations against the building department, the Congress has decided to change the MMIC,” said a source.
