Aid for children
Guwahati, Dec. 14: Dima Hasao deputy commissioner Barun Bhuyan today distributed financial assistance under project Assist scheme to 21 children, victims of ethnic violence at Haflong. The scheme has been sanctioned by the National Foundation for Communal Harmony, New Delhi.
Fine collected
Jorhat: The Jorhat district tobacco control cell on Friday collected Rs 5,000 in fine from 15 people for smoking in public places and also from 20 paan shops for not putting up warning signboards about the ill-effects of tobacco consumption.

Tinsukia: The 8th Bihar Regiment as part of Operation Sadhvavana on Friday distributed five computer sets worth Rs 2 lakh to Rupai Middle English School here in the district.

Golaghat: Assam Tea Tribe Students’ Association activists here on Friday staged a protest in front of Golaghat police station demanding the arrest of a financial company staff in the district for allegedly cheating large number of customers.
Arrested
Dhubri: Nearly 500 activists of Dhubri unit of CPM and its various wings were arrested by police while protesting against the price rise and demanding solution to the problems afflicting the nation and state in front of Dhubri deputy commissioner’s office on Friday.
Apprehended
Dhubri: In a joint operation by police and the army, Khudus Ali, 25, resident of New Ghat of district Dhubri was apprehended with fake currency notes valued at of Rs 34,000 on Friday. After interrogation Ali was handed over to Dhubri police station.

Itanagar, (PTI): Three endangered species of vultures have been spotted at the Dying Ering wildlife sanctuary in East Siang district by a team of researchers from the Rajiv Gandhi University.
